Antiochus III the Great (241-187 BC) inherited part of Alexander the Great's split up empire and became the Seleucid ruler of the what is now the Middle East. His early wars versus the Ptolemic Dynasty, the other empire descended form Alexander the Great, but won several wars against them later. He attempted to go to war against the Romans, but was defeated in 192 BC. He died 5 years later.
