Section heading[]

Arminius a.k.a. Hermann the German ( 18/17 BC-AD 21) led the betrayal of the Romans and Emporer Valens. Arminius took his Gremans and planned out an ambush weeks before the march through the forest. When the time was right, Arminus and the Germans lauched a full on assault that split the Romans up, causing chaos in the ranks. When it was all over, the 17th,18th, and 19th legions of the Roman army were all dead. Up to this point, Rome had never been defeated by barbarians. When Valen's head was sent back to Emporer Claudius and the Romans, Claudius had nightmares about losing his prized legions. Claudius told his successor before he died never to make war west of the River Rhine. Arminius wad murdered by his followers 12 years later.
