Ahmed Shah Massoud (September 2,1953-September 9,2001) was a leading Mujihadeen leader during both the Civil War as well as the Soviet occupation between 1979 and 1989. Massoud led the charge in the Taliban uprising in 1996, he created the United Islamic Front. On Spetember 9, 2001, 2 days before the 9/11 attacks, he was assasinated by 2 Arab al-Qaeda terrorists posing as journalists. He was then declared a nimonee of the Nobel Peace Prize.
