Lothar von Trotha: the German military commander who nearly eradicated the Herero tribe during the Herero Wars!
Lothar von Trotha (July 3,1848-March 31,1920) began his military career with the Prussian army and fought in both the Austro-Prussian and the Franco-Prussian Wars. He also participated successfully in stopping the Boxer and Wahehe Rebellions. At the Battle of Waterberg, von Trotha led the charge to attempt to annihilate the Herero warriors, but they escaped to Great Britain after their defeat. Lothar died form typhoid fever.
